ROCOCO WAR PAINTING
Recent world affairs have made me rethink the significance and powerlessness of art. Amidst such a situation, I discovered that there are many works of art from the Rococo period, which is supposed to be characterized by bright colors and elegance, that also depict tragic motifs. I was interested in these works because it was very difficult to determine whether if the artists truly wanted to depict tragedy or if it is just a pretense. I explored the possibilities and limitations of artwork’s depiction of tragedy by using these Rococo sculptures as motifs for more dynamic paintings.
